(Horicon) Moraine Park Technical College is planning several expansion projects across their various campuses following the passage of a referendum in the fall. One of those projects is a new fire trainings facility, which is currently housed at the Dodge County campus in Beaver Dam. The campus is landlocked, and Marshland Crossing in the city of Horicon is being looked at as a potential site for the new facility. Horicon Mayor Josh Maas was our guest recently on Community Comment.
“We have been in negotiations with Moraine Park Technical College for our Marshview, or our Marshland Crossing land west of town,” Horicon Mayor Josh Maas explains. “I can’t go into too many details, but they are looking at building a fire training academy.”
Marshland Crossing is an old farm bought by the City of Horicon and was once thought to be an ideal place for an industrial or commercial park. Maas says a lot of the land can be used for construction.
“A lot of the land that is buildable is pretty continuous,” Maas says. “So, it’s not like these pockets of places where you can build. Pretty much anything along Highway 33 is buildable, and then along the eastern side of that block of land.”
The mayor says that ideally, he would like to get more folks interested in future developments because of the location.
