Horicon Fire Chief Stepping Down With Election To City Council

(Horicon) Horicon will need to search for a new fire chief. Jim Bandsma had served in the position for the last sixteen years but will now sit on the city’s common council after receiving the most write-in votes during the spring election. The seat had been filled by Nathan Anfinson who did not seek re-election. Bandsma says he will stay with the fire department as assistant chief until a new chief is selected. Bandsma was elected ward two alderman in 2016 but declined to be seated. The city only allows officials to serve in one sworn office and Bandsma choose to remain fire chief at that time. Bandsma says Horicon has a lot of potential for positive growth and looks forward to the opportunities ahead of him. There is no current timeline set for when the fire chief position will be filled. In addition to his aldermanic duties, Bandsma was assigned to the Public Safety Committee as well as the Public Works and Development Committee.
