Highway Worker Injured In Multi-Vehicle Crash Expected To Recover

(Lodi) Authorities in Columbia County say the county highway department worker who was injured during an accident on the interstate is in stable condition and anticipated to make a full recovery. It all started Friday morning around 4am in the northbound lanes of Interstate 39 near Lodi. The Wisconsin State Patrol says it all began when one semi rear-ended another semi. About an hour later, a pickup truck traveling at highway speed hit a State Patrol cruiser stopped at the scene. Two state troopers and the highway worker were injured by flying debris. With traffic backed up at 6:45am, a major crash occurred a mile south of the two initial crashes. A semi-tractor traveling at highway speeds created a chain-reaction crash involving at least eight vehicles-three semi-tractor-trailers, a dump truck and four passenger vehicles. Four people were killed and three others seriously injured. Traffic was rerouted for about seven hours.
