(Dodge County) All of Wisconsin is either in high or very high fire danger. Dodge, Columbia, and Jefferson counties are in the high level while Fond du Lac and Green Lake counties have very high fire danger.
DNR officials say continued warm, dry, and breezy conditions makes burning of any kind extremely dangerous. In the last week, 127 wildfires have burned nearly 100 acres. Most were related to down powerlines, with some resulting from debris burning, equipment, and lightning. The DNR has responded to 450 fires burning over 630 acres so far this year.
Officials say the southern half of the state is greening up, which is moderating fire potential. The DNR is asking the public to avoid outdoor burning, including limiting the use of campfires until conditions improve. Cooler temperatures and some small chances of rain occurring over the coming days should help moderate fire danger and foster further greening of vegetation.
