(Fond du Lac County) Officers from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s office were involved in a high-speed pursuit following a routine traffic stop. On Friday September 6th, at 8:39pm a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Deputy stopped a vehicle on I-41 southbound at County Highway F in the township of Byron in Fond du Lac County. The vehicle was stopped for unsafe lane deviation and the registered owner of the vehicle having a suspended Wisconsin driver’s license. While attempting to obtain valid identification of the lone occupant of the vehicle, the operator took off from the stop at a high rate of speed. Sheriff’s Deputies pursued the vehicle southbound on I-41 to State Highway 49 and then continued northbound on I-41 to State Highway 26. The pursuit extended over 29 miles with speeds reaching 107 miles per hour. There were no injuries or damage from the pursuit. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Wisconsin State Patrol. Identification of the operator is being actively investigated prior to criminal charges.
