(Dodge County) Area emergency management officials are warning people of the high temperatures expected throughout the region Tuesday. Temperatures could reach the mid-90’s but the heat index is anticipated to be in the 100’s, according to the National Weather Service.
The heat index for the Beaver Dam area could reach 102-degrees, 104-degrees in Portage, 105 in Jefferson, and 103-degrees in Fond du Lac. Weather officials warn people to use extreme caution as a heat index above 100-degrees could lead to heat disorders with prolonged exposure or strenuous activity.
Citizens are urged to check on neighbors and family members that live alone, or have significant health conditions, to make sure their air conditioning is working. Parents are asked to not leave their kids or pets unattended in their vehicle. Other tips include drinking plenty of water and take frequent rest breaks in shade or air conditioned spaces.
