Hartford Man Sentenced For Molesting A Young Child

(Hustisford) A Hartford man will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars for molesting a young child. Steven Baran was sentenced Friday to 35 years in prison. Judge Seven Bauer also ordered him to serve an additional 15 years of extended supervision but noted during sentencing that Baran will (quote) “probably die in prison.” It took a jury in Dodge County less than a half hour in December to convict the 53-year-old of felony Repeated Sexual Assault of the Same Child. Baran went into the Hartford Police Department in 2015 to turn himself in for sexually assaulting a girl whose parents he was living with in Hustisford at the time. Baran said it happened five or six times over the course of three months and asked to be arrested since he was getting urges to rape again. The victim, who was ten years old when the assaults began, said the incidents happened between 2005 and 2007. Assistant District Attorney Yolanda Tienstra said during sentencing that (quote) “Baran has no remorse and cannot be rehabilitated” and the “sentence ensures that he will die in prison, which is exactly what should happen.”  Dodge County District Attorney Kurt Klomberg noted that, “Baran is a remorseless child sex predator [who] will never hurt another child.”
