Group Looking for Court to Overturn School Ruling

10/8/11 – The group Americans for Separation of Church and State is asking a federal appeals court to overturn a ruling on where Brookfield East and Brookfield Central high schools are allowed to hold graduation ceremonies. The group first filed its suit in 2009 because the schools were using Elmbrook Church for graduation. A federal judge ruled the ceremonies weren’t religious in nature, so it was okay to hold them there. Now, the group has asked the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to hear the case. A three-judge panel from the court upheld the judge’s decision last month, but Americans for Separation of Church and State now want the whole court to hear it.
