Governor Visits Horicon Elementary To Celebrate National Blue Ribbon Award

(Horicon) The Wisconsin governor made another stop to Dodge County Tuesday to celebrate the academic achievements of a local elementary school. Tony Evers was at Horicon Elementary which was a 2024 recipient of the National Blue Ribbon Schools Award.

The recognition highlights schools that excel in academic performance or make significant strides in closing achievement gaps among different student groups. Evers says all students and staff should be proud of this accomplishment.

“I know this about Blue Ribbon schools…first of all…for all students it means that you’re coming to school…doing a great job…working hard on your studies…listening…listening to your teachers…and being kind to your fellow people in your classrooms,” says Evers.

Assistant State Superintendent Paul Manriquez also congratulated the district for its hard work.

“Because who you are here at school matters…you help your teachers and all the staff here,” says Manriquez. “And who you are as a school…that matters to Horicon…it matters to Wisconsin…and it matters to the whole country.”

Horicon Elementary Principal Lisa Sawyer says this recognition is an incredible honor.

“From our amazing hard working teachers…staff…and students…to our supportive school community…PTO…and school board…and everyone one in the community who helps and supports us…everyone had a part in making this amazing accomplishment,” says Sawyer.
