Governor Evers Calls For 13th Senate District Seat Special Election

(Madison) Governor Tony Evers announced Tuesday a special election to fill the 13th Senate District seat being vacated by Scott Fitzgerald. Senator Fitzgerald, who was elected to the House of Representatives, intends to resign from the legislature on January 1st. The special election will be held on April 6th, the same day as the statewide spring election. Evers says if a primary is necessary it will be held on February 6th. Circulation of nomination papers began yesterday and must be filed by 5pm on January 8th. State Representative John Jagler has already announced that he is running for the state senate seat. Fitzgerald is endorsing Jagler to succeed him saying he is the “right choice, no question.” The 13th Senate District includes parts of Dodge, Columbia, Jefferson, Washington, Dane and Waukesha counties.
