The Beaver Dam High School football team picked up a 14-6 win over Milton on a soggy HH Derleth Field on Friday night in their Badger Large Conference opener.
After a scoreless 1st quarter in a steady rain, sophomore running back Gabe Klatt put Beaver Dam on the board with a 28-yard TD run with 9:50 left in the half. The Golden Beavers double up their 7-0 lead on the 1st play of the 3rd quarter when Cam Mendoza went 64 yards to the house, giving BD the 14-0 lead.
The lead stayed that way until Red Hawks QB Terrel Fisher connected with Ashton Goll on a four yard TD pass with 2:31 to play to make it 14-6. That’s as close as Milton would get before time expired.
The Golden Beavers outgained Milton 303 to 130. Klatt carried the rock 35 times for 180 yards and a TD. Mendoza finished with 82 yards on nine carries and a TD.
Zack Bothum led the Red Hawks with 46 yards on 18 carries.
The Beaver Dam defense held Milton to just 30 yards of total offense in the first half.
The Golden Beavers (2-1, 1-0) head to Watertown next Friday night. You can hear that game on 1430 WBEV and watch it on DailyDodge TV presented by Columbus Family Dental and the Beaver Dam Unified School District.
