Golden Beavers Take Badger East Crown

The Beaver Dam softball team used a seven run 8th inning to win the Badger East Conference Championship Game 9-2 at Monona Grove on Friday night.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 5th when a couple of Beaver Dam errors plated an unearned run for Monona Grove.  The Golden Beavers answered quickly in the top of the 6th when Carlee Lapen blasted a lead-off solo homer over the right field wall.  The Golden Beavers took a 2-1 lead in the top of the 7th after Gracie Halfman walked, then came all the way around from first to score on a throwing error after a sac bunt by Riley Czarnecki.

The Silver Eagles were down to their last strike on two occasions before Karlie McKenzie hammered a two-out, two-strike game tying double to right center sending the game to extra innings.

The Beavers 8th inning started with a pair of walks to Lapen and Audrianna Edwards.  Ginny Bryant bunted them over to 2nd and 3rd.  MG intentionally walked Makenna Fitzsimmons to load the bases.  Gracie Halfman busted up the tie with a two-run single to right and the flood gates opened up with five more runs in the top of the frame to secure the Badger East title.

Edwards picks up the win in relief of Riley Czarnecki.  McKenzie took the loss for the Silver Eagles

Beaver Dam (18-3) is set to host Hortonville on Monday.
