The Beaver Dam High School football team had the ground game going in a 35-8 win at Sauk Prairie on Friday night. Golden Beaver sophomore Gabe Klatt carried the mail 14 times for 195 yards and a pair of touchdowns as all 369 of the Golden Beavers yards came on the ground. Alex Soto piled up 85 yards and a pair of scores on five carries while Camron Mendoza rushed 12 times for 62 yards and a score.
Beaver Dam led 14-0 after the first quarter on the back of a 22 yard run by Soto and a 10 yards scamper by Klatt. Klatt added a 13 yard scoring run with 3:13 left in the 2nd quarter to push the BDHS lead to 20-0 heading into the halftime locker room.
The 3rd quarter saw Soto head to paydirt from 48 yards out and Mendoza rumble his way for a 13-yard TD to trigger the running clock with a 35-0 lead. Sauk Prairie’s only points game on a 20-yard TD pass from Jackson Brueinig to Damien Wright-Rodriguez with 8:59 left in the game.
Beaver Dam outgained the Eagles 369 to 188 on the day. The Golden Beaver defense held Sauk Prairie (0-2) to just 29 yards rushing on the day.
Beaver Dam (1-1) will open up Badger Large Conference play next Friday night when they host Milton (1-1) at Derleth Field. The kickoff is set for 7pm. You can watch the game on DailyDodge TV.
