The Beaver Dam High School football team hosts Deforest tonight at HH Derleth Field. The Golden Beavers (2-2, 1-1) are looking to bounce back from last week’s 49-41 shootout loss at Watertown.
Senior Alex Soto’s four TD catches in the loss, matches Broden Boschert’s school record set in 2019 against Baraboo. Soto also caught 10 passes for 268 yards which smashes Zach Schoenberger’s single game receiving yards mark of 172 set in 2019. His ten catches tied for 2nd most in a single game in program history. Todd Deibert caught 10 passes in 1998 against Oconomowoc. Soto hauled in a school record 12 passes this past spring in a win over Monona Grove.
Sophomore quarterback Camron Mendoza’s four TD passes in the game tied the program’s single game record, matching Carter Riesen (2019), Matt McDonald (2 times in 1984). His 281 yards passing was 2nd most in school history behind Carter Riesen’s 2019 game against Baraboo in 2019.
Mendoza has thrown for 442 yards and 5 TDS along with 2 interceptions in 2021. Soto has caught 19 passes for 372 yards and 5 TDs. He’s also carried the ball 13 times for 128 yards and 2 TDs. Sophomore tailback Gabe Klatt has 88 carries for a Badger Larege Conference leading 698 yards and seven TDs.
DeForest (4-0, 2-0) blew out Janesville Craig 53-0 last week to stay perfect in 2021. QB Mason Keyes has thrown for 661 yards and 12 touchdowns so far this season. He has not thrown an interception. Cale Drinka has rushed for 445 yards and six TDs while Max Weisbrod had a team leading 12 catches for 193 yards and three TDs. DeForest won the 2019 WIAA Division Three State Championship and are currently ranked 4th in the wissports.net D2 Coaches Poll.
