Golden Beavers Drop Playoff Opener At De Pere

The Beaver Dam High School football team dropped a 36-0 WIAA Division Two Level 1 playoff game at #1 seed and 3rd ranked De Pere on Friday night.

The Fox River Classic North champs jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter as Redbirds junior QB Gabe Herman threw TD passes Grant Hohol (35 yards) and Devin Koskey (22 yards).   De Pere went up 16-0 went a long snap on a punt sailed over Cam Mendoza’s head into the end zone and was covered by BD for the safety.  The Golden Beavers looked like they may cut into that lead late in the first half but Caleb Rinard’s 95-yard pick six with 4:25 left in the 2nd quarter extended the Redbird lead to 23-0.  Herman added a two yard TD run early in the 4th and Micha Schaut’s three yard scamper with 2:19 left rounded out the scoring.

Beaver Dam (4-6) sees their season come to an end with their first playoff bid since 2017 just their 9th postseason appearance in the 126 year history of the program.  The WIAA began football playoffs in the 1970s.   De Pere (9-1) will host Hartford next Friday night.
