The Beaver Dam girls basketball team’s season came to an end at the hands of a very talented Germantown (26-1) squad 74-54 on Thursday night in a WIAA Division One Sectional Final.
Beaver Dam (22-3) led 7-6 with 13:31 left in the 1st half, but the 2nd ranked Warhawks outscored the Golden Beavers 31-14 to take a 37-21 lead into the halftime locker room and never trailed again. Senior Avery Stonewall led BDHS with 16 points. Natalie Jens chipped in 9. Germantown’s KK Arnold, who is ranked as Wisconsin’s #1 player in the class of 2023, led all scorers with 26 points.
The loss snaps a 24-game post-season winning streak for Beaver Dam. The Golden Beavers won three straight WIAA Division Two state championships and qualified for last year’s State Tournament before the pandemic cancelled the event. Beaver Dam’s last playoff loss came in the 2016 Sectional Final against Green Bay Notre Dame 65-61 in overtime.
The defeat ends the high school careers of a solid senior class including; Natalie Jens, Maty Wilke, Paige Hodgson, Paige Yagodinski and Avery Stonewall.
Germantown will travel to #1 ranked Kimberly on Saturday with a trip to state on the line in the WIAA Sectional Final
