(Beaver Dam) Organizers say a feasibility study will hopefully show how to best connect the Gold Star Memorial Trail to Beaver Dam. The ten-foot wide paved trail – so named to honor local fallen veterans – extends two miles from Mayville Theiler Park to the Horicon Marsh Visitor Center, running along County Highway TW and State Highway 28. The next phase of the project will bring the trail from Horicon to Beaver Dam. During a recent Community Comment, Glenn Daily of the Friends of the Dodge County Parks group said they are currently looking at four different options. Those options include going along Highway 33, Highway E from the Wild Goose State Trial on up, along Highway B or alongside the railroad. Daily says the feasibility study could reveal that a combination of all four may be utilized to accomplish what they want to do.
He says a hearing will be held sometime this year to get public input on the project and their goal is to have a decision on which route to take by years end. Daily says organizers will then also begin the process of applying for grants and reaching out to foundations to help fund the project. He says phases two and three were combined which allows them to apply for larger grants. For more information about the project, visit www.goldstarmemorialtrailwi.org.
