Citing economic factors out of their control some officials in Fox Lake are hoping to reopen negotiations on state mandated upgrades to their wastewater treatment facilities. The upgrades were meant to stop the city from bypassing its wastewater treatment plant as it did during the heavy rains in 2004 and 2008. Under the current plan water and sewer rates would rise by an estimated 50-dollars per quarter. The city hopes the Department of Justice will allow them to reopen negotiations based on a number of factors, including the recession and the loss of their school and grocery store. Fox Lake officials are expected to contact the DOJ in the next few days.
