(Fox Lake) The Fox Lake man accused of murdering his girlfriend took the witness stand Tuesday at the trial of his mother, who is accused of helping him cover-up the crime. Marjorie Jones is charged with Aiding A Felon in connection with the killing of Sesalie Dixon in Fox Lake in December of 2016. Her son, Laverne Ware Jr, who is charged with First Degree Intentional Homicide, has his own two-week long jury trial scheduled in April. When Dodge County District Attorney Kurt Klomberg put Ware on the stand yesterday, the 37-year-old invoked his Fifth Amendment rights to avoid self-incrimination and was eventually excused. Also called to testify yesterday was Jones boyfriend Vernon Mickey who is also charged with Aiding A Felon in connection with the murder. The day after he allegedly learned of Dixon’s death, Mickey left the house to call police from a gas station, but video surveillance reportedly shows Mickey in the same gas station hours earlier, at which time police were not contacted. Mickey entered a not guilty plea at arraignment last March and has a scheduling conference on the calendar again in April. The prosecution is expected to keep calling more witnesses today before turning things over to the defense. The jury trial is scheduled to last until Friday.
