Fox Lake Man Convicted Of Assaulting Officer

(Beaver Dam) A Fox Lake man was convicted Wednesday on charges related to a police officer assault. Trevell Cowan pled no contest to one felony count of Battery to Law Enforcement and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia; a misdemeanor count of Obstruction was dismissed but read into the record. Beaver Dam police attempted to stop Cowan’s vehicle on North Center Street in November for failure to stop at a stop sign but he fled at a high rate of speed. Officers found his vehicle a few blocks away up over the curb, on the sidewalk and front yard of a residence at Beaver Street and Maple Avenue. After refusing orders to stay in the car, the 27-year-old resisted arrest and started punching the officer in the face. Cowan made contact with the officer multiple times resulting in a bloody nose. He attempted to flee on foot but was subdued with a Taser gun. Drug paraphernalia and fake urine were found inside his vehicle. As he was being taken into custody, Cowan told the officer that he was “sorry” for punching him saying that he only did it because he wanted to get away. A pre-sentencing investigation was ordered and a hearing is on the calendar in March.
