(Fox Lake) Fox Lake farmers near the lake were recently provided with some free cereal rye seed. The seed is being provided as part of an initiative to reduce soil and surface water run-off from farms within proximity to bodies of water. The seed is being provided by the Fox Lake Preservation Organization as part of a Dodge County Healthy Soils/Healthy Waters initiative. Recently, the Dodge County Healthy Soils/Healthy Water team demonstrated to area farmers the importance cover crops play combating soil erosion and water run-off. Currently three farms have agreed to participate in the program and have been provided with over six tons of seed. Participating farms include Trifecta farm, Dale Paul Farm, and Hoekstra Farm, and the FLPO is still open to having other watershed farmers take part in the initiative.
Other farms wishing to participate with the free cereal rye winter cover crop initiative, please call 920.344.2881 or 920-296-4764.
