The Fox Lake City Council passed a motion earlier this week that awarded a contract to build an equalization basin. The city is under a court order from the state to upgrade their wastewater treatment system to avoid bypassing sewage during times of heavy rain, like they did in 2004 and 2008. The contract was awarded to Town and Country Construction in the amount of about $1.2-million-dollars, though there are a number of contingencies, including the city receiving grant monies from the Clean Water Fund. Another contingency that would allow the city out of its contract would be if the city is successful in reopening the judgment and renegotiating a new settlement with the Department of Justice. The city was under an October 1st deadline to approve the contract and get all the paperwork for the grant submitted to the DNR.
