Former Waupun Correctional Officer Given Jail Time For Bringing Contraband Into Facility

(Waupun) A former Waupun correctional officer was sentenced to 60 days in jail with work release privileges Tuesday for bringing illegal contraband into the prison. In September, Mose Rice entered a no contest plea to a felony count of Delivering Illegal Articles to an Inmate. In December of 2017, a music player and a thumb drive that contained pornographic materials were found inside a prisoner’s cell. The inmate told officials that Rice brought in the USB, and also marijuana, in order to help pay back debts from a gambling addiction. The Janesville man at first denied the accusation to investigators but later admitted to only bringing in the flash drive. Rice said he never took money but did it out of fear of retribution from a street gang that had ties to the inmate. The 42-year-old was also placed on probation for two years.
