Former Waupun Correctional Inmate Found Guilty Of Attacking Another Prisoner

(Waupun) A former inmate at Waupun Correctional was found guilty Tuesday of attacking another prisoner. A jury convicted Sir Jordan Cosby of Battery by Prisoners and Substantial Battery. In June of 2017, Cosby and another convict were observed by correctional officers attacking a third inmate. The victim appeared to be unconscious lying on the floor while Cosby repeatedly punched him. Prison staff intervened, restraining Cosby and overheard one of the assailants shout (quote) “that’s for my brother.” The victim was covered in blood and suffered severe trauma to his head and face. Dodge County Assistant District Attorney James Sempf, who prosecuted the case, says he is grateful for the hard work of the jury who had to sort through the evidence of this complicated case. District Attorney Kurt Klomberg added that the guards acted in exemplary fashion to protect the victim, the sheriff’s detectives put together a great case and his assistant DA prosecuted it professionally. The 28-year-old Cosby, who is currently incarcerated at the Columbia Correctional Institution, faces up to 17-and-a-half years in prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for November 8.
