Former Jefferson County Deputy Arraigned On Burglary Charge

(Jefferson) A former Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy was arraigned Thursday on breaking and entering charges. Janelle Gericke stood mute and the court entered a not guilty plea on her behalf to one felony count of Burglary. Gericke reportedly attempted to gain access to homes without consent while off-duty last February. The criminal complaint states that the 29-year-old would allegedly attempt to enter homes while the homeowners were attending the funeral of a family member. She reportedly read online obituaries to find the next of kin, along with the funeral date and time. Gericke was terminated from her position in the jail division in July. Jefferson County Sheriff Paul Milbrath had issued a press release apologizing to the community for the (quote) “embarrassment and mistrust” the former deputy may have caused. Gericke has a plea hearing on the calendar in April.
