(Beaver Dam) A former Beaver Dam teacher was among those killed in Sunday’s Christmas parade incident in Waukesha. Tamara Durand, who was known then by her married name Tamara Frinak, taught at the district for seventeen years between 1992 and 2009. Superintendent Mark DiStefano says the hearts of the district go out to all those that have been impacted by this tragedy. He says they are particularly saddened to know that they lost a former staff member to such a senseless act. DiStefano says their hearts and prayers are with Tammy’s family and friends. She was 52-years-old.
Authorities have identified four other victims: 81-year-old Wilhelm Hospel, 79-year-old Virginia Sorenson, 71-year-old LeAnna Owen, and 52-year-old Jane Kulich. Waukesha Police Chief Dan Thompson says 48 others were injured including two children who are in critical condition.
A red SUV plowed through the parade around 4:30pm. Darrell Brooks was reportedly identified as the suspected driver and was taken into custody a short distance from the scene. Chief Thompson says the 39-year-old was fleeing a domestic disturbance before the incident. Police are expected to file five counts of First Degree Intentional Homicide and additional charges against Brooks.
