Fond du Lac Man Appears On Five Year Old Escape Charge

(Juneau) Cash bond was set at $5,000 dollars Monday for an Fond du Lac man who escaped the Dodge County Jail five years ago. Jeremy Merritt made his initial appearance on a misdemeanor charge of Escape-Civil Arrest. On March 26, 2013, Merritt used his work release privileges to go to the Beaver Dam Community Hospital and the local Shopko to fill a prescription but never returned. According to the criminal complaint, Merritt was aware that his release date was two months away and had further jail time that needed to be completed. If convicted on the escape charge, the 37-year-old faces up to nine months in prison. Merritt is also facing 15 felony counts of Failure to Pay Child Support; the court found probable cause to proceed to trial on the felony charges.
