Fond Du Lac County Expo Center to Host Veterans Mental health Summit

(Beaver Dam) Veterans and their families are invited to attend a mental health summit at the Fond du Lac County Expo Center Tuesday. Dodge County Veterans Service Officer Andy Miller is serving as the master of ceremonies. Speakers include the secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Veteran Affairs, the deputy director of the Milwaukee VA Medical Center and the director of the regional office in Milwaukee.
Among the topics being addressed are concerns about veteran suicide. Miller says the average age of a veteran who takes their own life is 56. He explains that there is help, and notes that evolving technology is helping address the issue. That includes the rise in popularity of telehealth sessions, where health care professionals and clients meet using video conferencing. Miller says the VA is able to provide tablets to veterans for telehealth services and in many cases broadband access.
The 2022 Milwaukee VA Health Summit will take place on Tuesday, September 20 from 9am to 3pm at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds at 530 Fond du Lac Avenue in Fond du Lac. The event is free and open to the public. No registration is required.
