Fond Du Lac County Board Approves $150K To Buy Housing Unit For Sexually Violent Offenders

(Fond du Lac) Fond du Lac County supervisors Tuesday night unanimously approved spending $150,000 to purchase a double-wide housing unit to place sexually violent offenders. The unit will be on the County Highway Department grounds in Fond du Lac. The money for the purchase will come out of the county’s general fund. Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says it’s a great location for a housing unit. He says his deputies are in and out of the location all day long refueling their vehicles, getting maintenance done to their squad cars. It is also the location for the Sheriff’s shooting range and impound building. County Supervisor Tom Dornbrook, who is also the Campbellsport Police Chief, told the board it was the safest option the county has for housing violent sex offenders. Over the years the county and its communities have had numerous battles with the state over the placement of sex offenders.
