Fond Du Lac Authorities Encourage Motorists To Drive Sober

(Eldorado) Fond du Lac County authorities say driving impaired can lead to tragic circumstances and puts everyone at risk. Serious injuries were avoided when a drunk driver struck the back end of an Eldorado fire truck that was parked on Interstate 41 near Townline Road around 10:40pm Saturday.

The emergency vehicle was at the scene of another crash that happened moments earlier when a semi rear-ended a tree service truck, causing the semi’s trailer to overturn spilling diesel onto the roadway.

Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says thankfully the drunk driver did not injure or kill any of the responders on scene and did not suffer significant injuries himself. He encourages motorists to slow down, give emergency workers plenty of room, and never drive while intoxicated.

The driver, identified as a 49-year-old Brookfield man, was arrested for First Offense OWI and Recklessly Endangering Safety.
