(Fond du Lac) Law enforcement agencies throughout Fond du Lac County partnered with state authorities to conduct one of the largest highway drug interdiction efforts ever initiated in Wisconsin. The endeavor, undertaken June 22nd and 23rd, involved 21 sheriff’s deputies working in conjunction with 14 troopers and 17 officers from departments including Waupun and Rosendale. Eleven civilian crime data analysts, seven K9 teams, an observation aircraft and dispatchers from the Wisconsin State Patrol also supported the operation. Officers were assigned to patrol different drug and crime corridors along I-41, Highway 151, Highway 23, and Highway 26. The initiative resulted in 331 traffic stops, 157 citations, 55 speed violations, 21 felony arrests, and 23 misdemeanor arrests. Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says they will continue to work with other local, regional, state, and federal agencies to keep drugs off the street. He says an interdiction task force is just one of the many tactics they use to combat illegal activities.
