Five Injured In Two-Vehicle Collision On Highway 73 Near Columbus

(Columbus) Five people were transported from the scene of a two-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon near Columbus. Authorities responded at 12:42pm to a T-bone collision at the intersection of State Highway 73 and Dane County Highway V in the Town of York.

Columbus Fire Public Information Officer Jerrod Fox tells that one vehicle with four passengers was located 50 feet off the highway with heavy damage. The jaws-of-life were used to remove the male driver and a female passenger; two children were also inside. The other vehicle, driven by an adult male, was found along the road.

All five were transported by ambulance to area hospitals, four of the five were taken to Madison; the extent of their injuries in unknown at this time. A MedFlight helicopter was cancelled before arriving on scene.

The state Department of Transportation says both lanes of Highway 73 were closed between Highway 151 and Muller Road until after 5pm. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
