Five Hour Blaze destroys Town of Waupun Home

(Waupun) Firefighters in Waupun were dispatched to N4129 HWY 26 in the Township of Waupun Friday just before 2 pm after multiple 911 calls, and a simultaneous report from a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputy passing by the address, observed smoke and flames emanating from the rear of the residence.  A 66-year-old male and his 31-year-old son were safely removed from the building with the help of the Deputy on scene.  Upon arrival Fire crews worked to stop the spread of the flames that had extended from the garage into the house and attic areas.  Firefighters were on scene for roughly 5 hours battling the blaze.  Investigations determined that a lawn mower parked in front of the garage had caught fire spreading to the residence.  The home sustained significant damage and is considered a complete loss.  The 66-year-old male resident of the home sustained minor injuries and was released at the scene.  Assisting were fire departments from Alto, Oakfield, Brandon-Fairwater, Town of Fond du Lac, City of Fond du Lac, North Fond du Lac, Lomira, Knowles, Fox Lake, Brownsville, Lamartine, Eden, St. Cloud and Lifestar Ambulance.
