10/12/11 – Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald officially announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate yesterday. The Horicon Republican is one of four members of the GOP hoping to replace Democrat Herb Kohl after he retires at the end of next year. Fitzgerald told us on WBEV’s Community Comment that his work on the measure that virtually eliminated collective bargaining for most of the states public employee union shows he is battle tested and he can deliver on what he promises. He says job creation will be a top priority following by reigning-in spending and addressing the solvency of entitlement programs. The only other announced Republican candidate is former Congressmen Mark Neumann, though former Governor Tommy Thompson is also expected to make his candidacy official soon. Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin of Madison is the only Democrat in the race.
