7/7/11 – Witnesses say thousands of dead fish are washing up onto the Lake Michigan shoreline. The small, shiny fish are called Alewives and experts say there’s no reason to be alarmed. Indeed, the fish are an invasive species from the Atlantic Ocean. They apparently die off each year due to the rough conditions in the fresh waters of Lake Michigan. Lake currents will push them back into the water and away from the Wisconsin shoreline as the summer progresses.
