First Woman Police Officer In Dodge County Passes Away

(Waupun) The first woman police officer hired in both Dodge and Fond du Lac Counties has passed away. Melinda “Mindy” Hendricks died on October 30th at the age of 66 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee with her daughter by her side. Hendricks was also the first female officer hired at the Waupun Police Department where she worked from 1979 until her retirement in 2012. During her 33 year tenure, Hendricks held the positions of patrol officer, sergeant, lieutenant, and deputy chief. In a Facebook post, the Waupun Police Department writes that Hendricks had a memorable smile and laughter, often making those around her also smile and laugh. They write that she will be remembered and she changed the lives of many with her service to the community. Memorial services are planned for this Saturday at 10:30am at Pella Lutheran Church in Waupun.
