First Wave Of July 4 Traffic Begins

7/1/17 – The Triple “A” considers the July 4th holiday period to run from Friday through Independence Day on Tuesday. But in reality, Monday is a work day for many — so lots of folks will either spend their holiday time before Monday, after Monday, or both. That’s one reason the Triple “A” expects record travelers during the July 4th period as 44-million Americans, including 840,000 from Wisconsin, drive at least 50 miles one way through Tuesday. Lower gas prices help, as the Triple “A” says regular unleaded is 15 cents a gallon cheaper than last July 4th, with a statewide average of $2.23. The state D-O-T says most road construction will stop at noon Friday and resume Wednesday morning — and officials urge drivers to buckle up and avoid distractions, after 12 people died during last year’s Independence Day.
