(Waupun) Fire destroyed two out-buildings on a farm in rural Waupun early Monday morning. The Waupun Fire Department responded to reports of a barn fire at N10533 Highway 151 at 1:30am after a passerby noticed the flames.
Upon arrival, crews encountered two buildings that were fully engulfed and a third building that was in immediate danger. The blaze was brought under control before spreading to the third building, a pole shed that sustained minor heat damage. One garage and a shed that was used to store round bales were a complete loss. The storage of the hay required extensive overhaul and, to avoid rekindling, crews stayed on scene for around three hours.
The property is owned by Larry and Karen Hopp. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation and is not considered suspicious at this time.
Agencies assisting included fire departments from: Alto, Beaver Dam, Brandon/Fairwater, Brownsville, Burnett, Fox Lake, Lamartine, Oakfield, City of Waupun and RIT District 4; along with the Waupun Police Department, Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, Lifestar Ambulance, and Alliant Energy.
