(Caledonia) A garage was destroyed by fire in the town of Caledonia over the weekend. The Portage Fire Department was called to N6709 Hillside Road around 4:25pm Saturday.
Enroute to the scene dispatch was notified that the garage was fully involved and the siding on a nearby house was starting to melt. Upon arrival, crews found a two-story wood frame structure in flames. Firefighters took an aggressive approach to stop the blaze and protect the house from any further damage.
Fire Chief Troy Haase says they were not able to stop the garage fire before it was a total loss. He says the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office was on scene for traffic control and initial interviews. Alliant Energy was also called to the property to secure the power.
Haase says the county communications center did a good job dispatching the appropriate equipment. He adds that one firefighter was transported to the hospital for evaluation. The origin and cause of the fire was undetermined.
