Final Day To Vote For Beaver Dam Family Center In National Contest

(Beaver Dam) Today is the last chance for residents to vote a local ice skating rink competing in a nation-wide contest for new lights. The Beaver Dam Family Center is up against four other communities for the American Hockey League’s Light Like The Pros Promotion. The grand prize winner will receive a $50-thousand dollar LED lighting system that professional clubs such as the Miami Dolphins and the Pittsburgh Pirates use in their own stadiums. The other finalists include rinks in Sunbury, Pennsylvania; Stockton, California; Rockford, Illinois and Clinton, New York. The winning rink will be selected based 75-percent on the vote totals and 25-percent on an essay. The Family Center opened in 1984 and is home to the Beaver Dam Hockey League and the Swan City Ice Skaters. The original lighting was replaced ten years ago with a low-interest loan from Alliant Energy that officials say paid for itself with energy savings.
