Family Rescued After Boat Capsizes On Beaver Dam Lake

(Beaver Dam) Three people were rescued after their canoe capsized on Beaver Dam Lake Thursday afternoon. The Beaver Dam Fire Department was dispatched at 4:17pm to Waterworks Park following reports of an adult and two small children in the water near Round Island.

Police officers were first on scene and made contact with the owner of a private watercraft on the boat landing who agreed to help. They were able to pull out a three-year-old, an eight-year-old and their 49-year-old father and bring them to shore.

The trio was treated by EMS on scene and released. The family was in the water for between 30 and 45-minutes. High winds were said to be a contributing factor in the rented canoe capsizing; the canoe was recovered.

Fire Captain Paul Hartl notes that all three on board were wearing personal flotation devices. Hartl says that, coupled with the willingness of bystanders to assist, were important factors in the positive outcome of the call.
