(Juneau) The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office says they have encountered or fielded reports of multiple disabled vehicles throughout the county from the extreme cold, including many semi-trucks. There were only a handful of run-off accidents reported and a couple apparently unfounded calls to dispatch about dogs being left outside. Around noon yesterday, deputies responded to a check welfare call for a man walking down Highway 175 in the Town of Lomira without any boots. The subject was said to be uncooperative and refused a ride.
A wind chill warning remains in effect through noon Thursday as artic temperatures linger in the region. With all the snow cover, light winds and clear skies that could mean new record low temperatures were set overnight once all the data is in. Wind chill readings in some parts of the state hit 50-degrees below zero, or colder. A warm-up is on the way as the thermometer could reach into the lower 40s in southern Wisconsin this weekend.
