Explosives Collection Blown Up At Fond du Lac Residence

9/17/17 – A large collection of military grade explosives was blown up in Fond du Lac’s Lakeside Park West Tuesday night. Police and paramedics were checking on the welfare of a man who collapsed in his home on Fond du Lac Avenue when they came across the explosives. The man is a Vietnam Veteran and a collector. Assistant Police Chief Steve Klein says some of the responders are also veterans and recognized the dangerous potential of the explosives. The controlled detonation was handled by the Explosive Ordinance Disposal members of the 115th Air National Guard Unit from Madison and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. They buried the explosives in the ground and put charges around them before detonating the explosives. Klein says first responders, whether they are law enforcement officers or firefighters, are always walking into the unknown no matter what type of call they are responding to.
