Evers Orders Flags At Half-Staff For Markesan Sailor Killed At Pearl Harbor

(Markesan) Governor Tony Evers has ordered the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff Monday in honor of a Markesan sailor killed at Pearl Harbor. Navy Petty Officer First Class Keefe Connolly was killed when his ship, the USS Oklahoma, was torpedoed by the Japanese. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency exhumed Oklahoma Unknowns in 2015 for scientific analysis and possible identification, and the agency’s laboratory identified Connolly’s remains in February. Evers says he thanks everyone who worked to ensure Connolly was able to return home after all these years so he can be laid to rest in his home state. He adds they are thankful for his service and his sacrifice and hope this final journey brings peace to his memory. Connolly will be laid to rest with military honors at Memorial Cemetery in Markesan today.
