Cavalry During the Civil War
The Fox Lake Historical Society presents a program by Jess Martinez on Cavalry movements during the Civil War. The program will take place on March 14th, Saturday, at the Community Congregational Museum, 206 S. College Ave. in Fox Lake. The presentation will begin at 6:30 PM in the historic old church. The program is FREE to the public.
The title of the talk is “The Devil to Pay: Cavalry actions on the first day of Gettysburg”. Jesse will be giving a brief explanation of the battle and then talk about how the Cavalry and it’s comrades influenced the campaign. Jesse describes himself as a history and military enthusiast. He has been a member of the 8th Regimental Illinois Volunteer Cavalry, a Civil War Reenactment group out of Northern Illinois for many years. He says “I consider it a great honor to find the original members of this great unit and keep their names alive for history. In this way these men will not become part of the forgotten heroes of this country.”
A the conclusion of the program all attending will be invited to stay for treats provided by the Fox Lake Historical Society members and to view the wonderful collection of Civil War items on display.
