Dryer Fire At Universal Coop

(Lebanon) Fire caused a half-million dollars in damages to a grain dryer at Universal Co-op in Lebanon. Fire Chief Ben Tietz says his department was called to N1094 County Highway R between Old and New Lebanon around 10pm Wednesday for a report of a grain dryer that was on fire. Tietz says the whole dryer is a complete loss. The flames were put out relatively quickly between 10-15 minutes. He says what took the most time was clearing the corn from the inside of the dryer. No word yet on the cause and the incident remains under investigation. The dryer was installed at the co-op in recent months. Universal Coop is still accepting corn and is working with multiple partners to get corn custom dried. Watertown and Ashippun fire departments assisted at the scene which was cleared in around four hours.
