Drowning Death Reported In Washington County

(Washington County) An 81-year-old man drowned in Washington County Thursday. Authorities were dispatched just after noon after receiving a report from a resident in the Town of Trenton that a weed cutting machine on Wallace Lake operated by an elderly man had capsized. Squads were dispatched and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team was paged. The first deputy arrived about two minutes after being dispatched and found the machine capsized about 47 yards off shore in water around four feet deep. The deputy entered the water along with a couple residents who were already in the water making their way to the machine.  The deputy went under the water and was able to feel the victim underwater but was unable to free the subject and note that there were no signs of life. Members of the Dive Team along with the West Bend and Newburg fire departments were able to free the Town of Trenton man around 2pm. He was later pronounced deceased by the Washington County Medical Examiner. The incident is under investigation. Also yesterday, a 53-year-old man drowned while swimming at Big Foot Beach State Park in Lake Geneva.  Witnesses say he went under and was yelling for help, but they could not reach him in time.  It took emergency responders an hour to recover the body.  No names have been released.
