Domestic Incident Turns Into Standoff Near Pardeeville

(Town of Marcellon) A domestic incident turned into a standoff over the weekend near Pardeeville. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched around 4:30pm Saturday to a disturbance at a residence on County Highway CM near Dalton Road in the Town of Marcellon.

The caller reported his adult brother attacked their mother, took her to the floor and held her there. The adult brother then broke a picture frame and armed himself with a piece of broken glass. An argument continued until the suspect barricaded himself in a bedroom prior to the arrival of law enforcement.

Deputies negotiated with the subject by telephone trying to get him to exit the bedroom unarmed, but he apparently refused saying authorities would have to shoot him. Initial entry to the bedroom using a Tazer gun, bean bag rounds and a K-9 unit was unsuccessful as the barricaded door would not open wide enough.

The Emergency Response Team then deployed two cannisters of tear gas through a window. The suspect exited unarmed and was taken into custody. The standoff lasted around one hour. James Tiedeman of rural Portage was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

The 36-year-old is now in the Columbia County Jail on charges of Domestic-related Disorderly Conduct while Armed, Domestic related Battery, Domestic related Strangulation, and Resisting Arrest while Barricaded and Armed. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Pardeeville EMS.
