The Wisconsin Department of Justice reports it has issued more than 136 thousand concealed carry licenses in the state. That’s about three percent of those over the age of 21. Some neighboring states have issued fewer licenses, but a greater percentage of those who are eligible. Wisconsin is said to be one of 20 states which won’t provide public access to the names of those who hold the licenses. The Associated Press reports the attorney general’s office won’t say if the Brookfield salon shooting had a Wisconsin concealed carry license, or if the Sikh Temple shooter had one. Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen says making that information public would let bad guys know as well and it wouldn’t be as much of a deterrent when they wonder if a possible victim might be armed.
