Dodgeland Cross Country Ready For Postseason Run

After a successful regular season the Dodgeland High School girls and boys cross country team is gearing up for solid postseason run which starts today at the Sub-Sectionals in Albany.

Coaches Andrew Perkins and Kevin Klueger have taken the reigns of the program this season as veteran coach Barry Smatz took the year off because of COVID-19.   Coach Perkins tells DailyDodge.com that Smatz has still been a part of the program as the coaches talk quite often and are all on the same page.  He says that its been tough not having him around but they have been making the best of it and the kids have been fantastic.

The Dodgeland girls won the Trailways Conference Meet last week and also had the race medalist in freshman Ava Raash.   Juniors Brielle Blome (6th), Miranda Firari (7th) and sophomore Sayrah Benzing (13th) also received All-Trailways Conference honors.   Freshman Syvana Benzing was 21st to round out the Trojan runners at the conference meet.

The Dodgeland girls have had lots of success recently qualifying for the state meet in Wisconsin Rapids in 2016, 2017 and 2018.  That included the 2017 Division Three State Championship.

The Dodgeland boys team has only had four runners on their squad this year, meaning they were not able to compete for team championships.  Individually they have had huge success.  Evan Finger won the Trailways Conference Meet last week.  Sophmores Zak Reinwald (9th) and Logan PIckart (10th) also garnered all-league honors while James Browning just missed Honorable Mention with a 22nd place finish at the conference meet.

The top two teams from today’s Sub-Sectional in Albany will qualify for Saturday’s Sectional Meet at UW-Parkside.  The 2020 WIAA State Cross Country Meet is October 31st in Wisconsin Rapids.
